INTERVAL is a collaboration between photographer Martien Mulder (New York) and creatives Stef Bakker and Carsten Klein (Amsterdam).

All three share a fascination with the force that lies in stillness. In 2020, they embarked on an extensive quest to reveal this force in Mulder’s images, editing from an archive of 25 years of photography, to ultimately create an object that in itself continues this quality.

This book resonates with the Japanese concept of ma. Ma has been described as a pause in time, an interval, or emptiness in space. It speaks of silence as opposed to sound, of void as opposed to object. It calls attention to the things that inform our experience and our emotional point of view.
